the soap box+
A compressible stool reimagined at various capacities.
THE SOAP BOX
The project began as an endeavor to create a foldable soapbox that could unroll itself into a completely flat shape. After constructing the piece out of wood, I began to explore how the design could be used if duplicated or produced at a variety of scales.
JOINTS
The joints’ rounded edges allow each point to rotate 270 degrees. A notch cut into the center of the top platform holds the members in place, and keeps them from sliding once locked in.
STORAGE UNIT
When duplicated and stacked, the design produces a compressible storage unit.
picnic table
The design can provide a sturdier alternative to the conventional, plastic folding tables.
SHELTER
At a larger scale, the design offers an quick-to-assemble temporary shelter.
